How to Find Wasted TikTok Ad Spend with AI

Use TikTok Ads MCP to identify inefficient TikTok campaigns, quantify possible waste, and prepare a safe optimization review.

By AdsDecideUpdated 2026-08-20

“Wasted spend” is a review hypothesis, not a universal metric. A campaign may be intentionally buying reach, testing a new audience, or waiting for conversions to be reported. Use TikTok Ads MCP to find candidates, then validate the business context before proposing a change.

Define waste for this account

Set the date range, conversion event, attribution context, minimum spend, minimum impressions or clicks, and comparison period. Review signals can include spend above a threshold with no conversions, rising CPA, falling conversion rate, or spend concentrated in entities that miss the campaign objective.

Do not use a threshold from another account without checking its margin, sales cycle, and conversion volume.

Find candidates with a staged query

  1. Rank campaigns and ad groups by spend, conversions, CPA, and ROAS.
  2. Filter out entities without enough data for a meaningful comparison.
  3. Break candidates down by creative, placement, audience, or another available dimension.
  4. Compare the current period with the prior period and check recent edits.
  5. Ask for a reason code: tracking issue, delivery issue, creative issue, audience issue, or insufficient evidence.

Prompt template

Find TikTok campaign or ad-group candidates for inefficient spend in [account]
from [date range]. Use [currency], [time zone], and [conversion event].
Require at least [spend/click] before flagging an entity. Show spend,
conversions, CPA, conversion value, ROAS, comparison-period change, and the
evidence for each flag. Do not pause, edit, or change budgets.

Validate before calling it waste

Check whether conversions are delayed, tracking recently changed, the campaign is in a learning or review state, the objective is upper-funnel, or the account has a long sales cycle. Confirm that the agent did not combine incompatible campaign types, currencies, attribution windows, or date ranges.

Prepare a safe recommendation

For every candidate, record the affected entity, evidence, suspected cause, proposed action, expected impact, test duration, owner, and rollback condition. A safer first action may be a measurement check or a controlled test rather than pausing delivery.
